HHV-6 linked to Multiple Sclerosis

There was a response to day to a comment I made on an Autism Vox blog entry titled If There’s No Autism Epidemic, Where are all the Adults with Autism?

HHV-6 has been linked to both autism and Type 1 Diabetes. Finding both in the same person may be another reason for the autism community to take a close look at HHV-6.”

So I did some eResearch on HHV-6 since this is the first time I have heard of it. It turns out there is a fairly strong proven link between Multiple Sclerosis and HHV-6, specifically RR MS. Generally speaking it would make sense that one person in the family home could pass a virus on to other member of the family. If the HHV-6 virus is implicated in the development of several Autoimmune Disorders (namely MS, LUPUS, Type I Diabetes and Autism…which myself and children have) then I could see a strong connection to HHV-6 and the cards my family has been dealt.

If one person in my home gets the flu, it is pretty safe to say we will all get the flu. The only thing that I would like to see more information on is why some people seem to be safe from HHV-6 causing an autoimmune disorder. There is a likely genetic or environmental predisposition that causes the HHV-6 virus to go to that next level; wreaking havoc in the organs, and on the myelin.

Here are some links to research being done on HHV-6. Some MS patients are even being treated with anti-viral drugs and avoiding relapses that way. Food for thought in my humble opinion.

  1. Here’s an interesting post about HHV-6 and autism:

  2. It is also possible that the damage HHV-6 does is dose and strain dependent. Reinfection is also possible. Because the CDC (for political and reasons) has refused to take HHV-6 seriously as the chief cofactor or actual cause of AIDS, the virus has been allowed to spread and change throughout the general population. The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome epidemic, the autism epidemic, the increase of MS, and many new cases of diabetes, may all be the result of the CDC’s refusal to tell the public the truth about HHV-6. (HHV-6 also has the potential to cause cancer.)

When the public starts asking doctors to test for HHV-6 and to check for any underlying immune dysfunction, we may find out that the country isn’t as healthy as it thinks it is.
